SAN BERNARDINO CALIFORNIA— The San Bernardi­no Coun­ty Super­in­ten­dent of Schools’ Region­al Occu­pa­tion­al Pro­gram has received a $35,000 grant to sup­port new high school class­es that address water issues in California.

The pro­grams are expect­ed to devel­op new stan­dards-based mod­el cur­ricu­lum that pro­mote advanced and in-depth study of a tar­get­ed con­tent area.

The grant, called the H20 SMART Project, focus­es on ener­gy, envi­ron­men­tal and util­i­ties indus­try sec­tor, offer­ing a path­way for envi­ron­men­tal resources through two inte­grat­ed sci­ence cours­es — Water 101 and Water Science/Technology.

SAN BERNARDINO — The San Bernardi­no Coun­ty Super­in­ten­dent of Schools’ Region­al Occu­pa­tion­al Pro­gram has received a $35,000 grant to sup­port new high school class­es that address water issues in California.

The grant is a nine-month Spe­cial­ized Sec­ondary Pro­gram offered by the Cal­i­for­nia Depart­ment of Edu­ca­tion. The pro­gram pro­vides start-up funds for new and advanced spe­cial­ized pro­grams in high schools. It’s esti­mat­ed in the first year of the pro­gram that 128 stu­dents will be enrolled in the new water and water science/technology class­es, although school sites and dis­tricts have not yet been disclosed.

The pro­grams are expect­ed to devel­op new stan­dards-based mod­el cur­ricu­lum that pro­mote advanced and in-depth study of a tar­get­ed con­tent area.

Cours­es will use telep­res­ence tech­nolo­gies for deliv­ery. Par­ents, stu­dents and the com­mu­ni­ty will be involved in design­ing the cur­ricu­lum for the classes.
